Days off ‘ are meant to explore, wander, and de-stress. We must allow ourselves time to decompress from work and daily life stressors. I know . We feel like we have so much to do. That we don’t have time. But .. It’s important.
(You know , that whole work-life balance thing. )
It can work in your favor. It already is. You’re taking time to read this post. Treat yo self.
Also .. you’ll have more energy. You might not lose your cool, as easily. You might even be happy , like smiling. Voluntarily.
Sounds fun, right?
The husband and are getting back into the routine of work-life balance , dating each other , and truly enjoying our free time together.
Join us – as we escape to – BainBridge Island.
We’d heard wonderful things about Bainbridge . Bainbridge Island is one of the neighboring islands near Seattle. It’s about a 30 minute ferry ride. So happy we jumped on the Seattle Ferry & headed over. (It’s only $8.20 for walk on pedestrians. And free on the way back.) You can either pre-load your Orca card (at various locations) or purchase tickets at the Seattle ferry terminal.
There are some wonderful boutique shops , equisite restaurants , beautiful green spaces and lovely events on Bainbridge. This is our first trip , so I’ll be unveiling cool spots to check out on this feature series.

Where is your favorite escape spot?
Quirky and wanting another Island Day,
It’s Monday. You wake up last minute.
Coffee spills on your outfit. You just throw on whatever. Some manufactured over-worn t-shirt. It works. It doesn’t matter. Or so you think.
You go about your day. Meetings. Office small talk. More coffee. You get home .. Just to realize .. You’ve had a huge hole in your shirt. (Along with a sizable rip) “I’m cool. So cool.”
As you start to hurl the worn t-shirt into the trash.. You stop to think..What if this wasn’t trash? What if this could be more? What if this simple and basic fabric could stand for something.
This stance resonates with the ladies (Janelle Abbott & Martha Lucas) of This Then That Studio. This Then That Studio is an Eco and Ethical Fashion line based in Tacoma. I had the pleasure of catching up with them at Urban Craft Uprising in downtown Seattle.
Over 13.1 million pounds of textiles end up in landfills annually.
Abbott and Lucas are on a movement to re-purpose such a fabric as a “worn t-shirt”. Their on a mission to salvage waste and transform it into zero waste hand-made fast fashion.
First, their process begins with the idea of a white worn t-shirt. They cut out the seams and assemble into various geometric shapes. Shapes are placed on various other fabrics and a new creation is born. Once the garments have exceeded their use, the garment can be de-constructed and turned into a t-shirt once again.
The beauty of the “This Then That Studio” is magical. Giving a purpose to possibly a piece of discarded ‘trash and turned into a working piece of ‘art . Their movement is renewable , sustainable , hand-made , and a zero-waste piece of clothing.
Sounds like a win-win if you ask me.

Quirky , Happy, and feeling fashionable ,
“On days when you feel stuck and aren’t sure how to write a post, it might well be that your topic and content are solid, but your approach needs tweaking. Have you tried experimenting with word count?”
The only time I’ve ever experimented with word count was in college making sure my papers we’re the right amount of words.
I need too.
My posts tend to be a bit long & wordy [averaging 600-800 words] so I thought I’d try for no words. All those words to no words?
Hmm [Challenge Accepted]
So this Idea all started with me ‘commenting’ on a post on Instagram.
This might get crazy.
I responded with an all emoji sentence.
A literal lightbulb went off when I wrote it.
You know …When you get a great idea, and literally see a lightbulb!
…That happens right? .. I mean.. It feels like it should happen.
But seriously [ I wish my husband would have been home to see this.
I got a literal OMG stare, jumped up, & almost fell over the coffee table. The collies we’re terrified and my Husband would have thought I was crazy.]
Ok. I came up with a concept for a small coffee table book.
[Based off an emoji sentence.] Yes.
So here you go. A little sneak peak.
Hmm. Well. I’m a little nervous to put it out there.
Just look at that emoji. So many ideas right? [yea, that was a poor substitute]
But ,I did realize ,emoji’s helped inspire my secret project , increase my word count, and motivate me to jump on a great idea.
Feel free to put all your positive energy & mojo’ out there.
I sent an email to a publishing company this afternoon. [yes, the secret idea I just came up with]
Because sometimes the risk is worth getting a letter saying “Hello, thanks for this. We like it. ”
Or a stranger happened to see it. And they smiled.
You ever get a crazy random idea?
You follow thru? You still working on a project?
You submit it for something?? Did a something Random or weird inspire your writing?
Clearly I’m full of questions & would love to hear your comments below.
Quirky & wanting to read a lot of coffee table books
